Lump in thigh

Hi. I'm looking for anyone who understands how I'm feeling basically. I'm 46, have 3 kids. About 6 weeks ago I found a lump golf ball size I think in my thigh. I had to wait two weeks for a GP appt, she referred me for an ultrasound but 4 weeks later I'm still waiting so I've just booked a private scan next week.

I'm absolutely terrified. Everything I read points to sarcoma and I'm doubly worried because my leg, around my hip area, feels weird when I lay on it, although I can't actually feel a lump there, and has for much longer than 6 weeks although I can't remember how long and I (stupidly?) didn't think much about this until I found the lump lower down.

At this point I'll be shocked if it isn't cancer tbh , what I'm really after is anyone who has already done this journey and can give me their experience of treatment and survival rates. Really anyone who understands how terrified I am. My husband thinks I'm over reacting, I can't mention it to my mum because her sister died of cancer and she'll be crushed and the few friends i have told just say it's probably a fatty lump, don't worry. I get that, I would probably be saying that myself if the situation were reversed, but that's not what I need to hear right now.

  • Hello Maidmarian48,

I hope your scan next week goes ok and please don't be afraid to ask questions, it might help to write them down beforehand. When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor. These tips here are useful, whether waiting for an appointment or waiting for results.

    Best wishes,
