MRI enhancement

Hi

I have to BRCA1 faulty gene.  Had regular annual mri and maamograms  until lockouts which postponed appointments.

Had some milk ducts removed 20 years ago. Consultant  at that time said cells were turning.   

I have moved to different area.  Had meeting with genetics in December 2021 where statistics were rattled off and she emphasised I am at that age now to be  stop putting off prophylactic surgery.

I am a single parent of a disabled teen and lack of family support  means I have been putting off any surgery. Social Care services were cut after 2nd lock downs.

Had an mri in January.  Took 7 weeks for an informal letter from genetics to say some  enhancement on right breast but sure its nothing to worry about.

A week later I receive 2 appts to have a 3D mammogram and an ultrasound.

I'm stressed and confused.  Yes I Googled and still none the wiser.

Can anyone explain what has enhanced and needs these extra tests?

    I'm sorry to hear that your recent breast screening MRI has led to you being recalled. It sounds as if the breast team has identified an area that they want to examine further and this is why you've been asked to attend for a 3D mammogram and ultrasound. 

    It's understandable that you're feeling worried about this. Try and stay positive and focus on the point that the letter you had from the genetics team didn't have any immediate cause for concern. I'd suggest giving Google a very wide berth. As you've already discovered you're unlikely to find answers but you most certainly will be left feeling more anxious.
