New and anxious member, 50 y/o referred due to breast lump

Hey, have come across this chat whilst googling breast lumps.  Looking for similar posts I could relate to.  So I turned 50 just over 2 weeks ago and boom I  found a breast lump in the lower quadrant right breast.  Feels more oblong/oval movable.  Have Been referred on 2 week referral.  My appointment is booked for Monday.  Been remaining positive and hoping its hormonal, not gone through change yet.  However this morning have found a much smaller lump round pea like lump in other breast in nipple area but can't seem to move it! Freaking out now! Monday can't come quick enough.  Anyone have a similar story or advise or can relate?  Thanks in advance and for reading my post

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, kelgel50.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

We have many other ladies here on the forum who have gone through a similar experience and who will understand exactly how you're feeling right now so I hope you get a chance to speak with some of them very soon.

Also, if you want to ask someone with a medical background some questions before you go to your appointment next week, our lovely team of nurses would be happy to chat with you. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

Keeping my fingers crossed they won't find anything sinister on Monday, kelgel50.

    With best wishes,

  • Hi try not to worry it might not be serious at all,I had a lump and I had to go through chemo and an op also radiotherapy, but now I am cancer free so it's not all bad at all, just try not to think about things till you know what's going on,we all think of the worst.x

  • Hi, i can really relate to how you are feeling, you are not alone.

I am a little further forward on my journey, found a lump two weeks ago and had a mammogram 2 days later. I was immediately told I had two large cysts which was a huge relief but as well as these they found microcalcifications which i was told needed a biopsy. they drained the cysts and i had another ultrasound which showed a mass that was hidden by the cysts - thank god they were drained - and so i needed another biopsy.

Two biopsies and two drained cysts later with a lot of bruising to show for it I am waiting on results and get them tomorrow. I have moments of positivity and moments of despair, the waiting is unbearable. I've told my work colleagues what's going on as i thought they would figure out something was wrong and it was the best decision ever, I've got a really good support network who check in on how I'm feeling every day without troubling my family about it. It really does help.

The advise I would give you is to keep as busy as you can and surround yourself with distractions. Telling a few people outside of your immediate friends and family can alleviate some of the pressure and remember that it's ok to feel scared. Some days I feel guilty for getting so worked up about something that might not be anything and others i feel great. You will worry but don't let it consume you.

Good luck for your results, expect your anxiety to increase the closer you get, that's where I'm at right now so I'm working late, cracking on and keeping busy.

    x
