Mole Biopsy

I had two moles removed via excision biopsy (one on my breast and one on my back), the excision on my breast was pretty big (6 stitches) and the one on my back was 4. I didn't realise they would be so large as anyone I know who has had them removed has only had 2 stitches and a punch biopsy. Is there a reason an incision biopsy was chosen? I feel like I wasn't given much information. Also, it's been nearly 5 weeks since the biopsy with no results, is this generally a normal waiting time? i rang the doctors this morning and they haven't received anything. I'm an anxious person so I think some clarification would help! TIA

  • Hi there.

I'm currently awaiting results back from an excision of a mole on my breast too back in feb 14th..

I have an appointment to attend on the 28th march . I was kind of hoping I would hear over the phone what the results were before then but so far nothing.

as for your excision I was led to believe they often remove skin around the area to biopsy as well as the mole.. The dr who did mine said not to be alarmed if I get asked to come in again if they didn't get a big enough sample- maybe they were just making sure they had  a large enough area to test?
    In just assuming of course.

hope you get positive results back :) I'm also a very anxious person so easy said than done- I know!

  • Thank you for that reassurance! Mine was the 11th and I haven't received anything. Hopefully I will get a letter through soon- I do remember her saying I won't receive results over the phone regardless if they're good or bad! I hope your results come back all fine and you don't have to have any more of it removed
