Raised ca125

I'm 37 years age, have been suffering lower abdominal/back pain for a couple of months, doctor sent for blood tests which came back raised ca 125 levels, been referred for urgent gynaecology appointment got an appointment within 2 weeks, anyone had this?!

  • Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this worry.

You might find it reassuring to know that your CA-125 levels can come back raised for many different reasons, especially if you are pre-menopausal.

Fibroids, benign cysts, endometriosis and even the menstrual cycle can all give a raised result. A raised CA-125 doesn't always mean something more sinister, like cancer.

Do you know how raised your CA-125 result was? 0-35 is the normal range and some docs say it is only more indicative of cancer if the numbers are going into the hundreds or thousands. However, there are always exceptions to this so best to get it properly checked out - this will most likely be done with a trans vaginal ultrasound scan in the first instance. And this test isn't as bad as it sounds!

Do you have any other symptoms which are worrying you (other than rhe back/abdo pain)?

    Sending a virtual hug,

    Baz :)

  • Hi, thanks for reply, only other symptom is late periods, the pain is more like a dull achy constant pain in my lower stomach/back. I have an appointment next Monday for an ultrasound, I'm assuming it will be the trans vaginal one. Hoping I get some more answers then.

  • Hi,

Im so glad I have come across this today, I was told two weeks ago my CA-125 was very high over 90 after some boods reuslts. I went to the doctor thinking I was in menopause. I have continued period like pains in my back stomach and sometimes in the tops of my legs. I get no relief from this pain and intercourse is a no go area.My period is very heavy lasting longer than ever before, this has increased over the last 6-8months. I do know that I have fibroids which were found over 3 yrs (after kidney stone surgery) ago but not treated; so I am hoping it is just this, they may have grown.

However this is the first time the CA-125 has been detected in bloods. I know I should not over think or get stressed/worried but I am

I have a Plevis ultrasound, Transvaginal and a Urinary tract ultrasound booked for Friday 11.03.22

I think im just in need of reassurance right now, along with positivity..

  • That's not too long to wait then...although any amount of waiting can feel like too long!

As you say, hopefully the scan will tell you more about the cause of your symptoms.

In the meantime, be kind to yourself and take care :)

  • Hi,

I'm sorry to hear of your symptoms, but pleased you are getting everything checked so thoroughly on Friday. That's not too long to wait now.

It may well be your fibroids causing your symptoms as you've suggested.

Let us know how you get on if you can and take care of yourself x
