Swelling on my child’s neck

Hi, before I start, I know I can't get a diagnosis on here and I hope I don't upset or offend anyone. About 18months - 2 years ago my son had a small lump appear on the side of his neck. I had this checked out and he had an ultrasound done on it and it turned out to be a lymph node, because he has a skinny neck it's more prominent. No further tests. Last year, he had a lump appear suddenly on the left side back of his neck. I spoke to a doctor over the phone who said keep an eye on it if it gets bigger then come back. Admittedly it did go down so I never followed it up. I can't still feel a tiny lump under the skin, not noticeable like it was to look at, but it is very tiny and has reduced in size. Anyway tonight, he was reading and I happened to notice on the back right side it looks like it's swollen, rather than a prominent lump. I forgot to say he is 5. He doesn't show pain from the lump. But, for the last few weeks he has been complaining of aching legs and being tired. Sometimes to the point on the way home from school he is falling asleep in the car. Super unusual for him. He hasn't lost his appetite and isn't losing weight. I am going to contact his GP in the morning, but for now, although I'm not looking for anyone to diagnose, I'm just wondering if anyones child has experienced anything similar and it turn out to be absolutely fine. For some reason out of the 3 of my children I worry about him the most(health wise) always have done since he was born. Sorry for the long post, if you make it to the end then Thankyou for reading xx

  • Thankyou for replying to me. We saw the doctor yesterday who thinks it could just be a fat patch but has referred him for an ultrasound to be sure. I will try not to worry about it until then but that's easily said thanks done.

  • That's reassuring to hear Mumma123 but I know that until your son has had the ultrasound and the results have come back to confirm your doctor's suspicions that the next couple of weeks will be very tough.

Waiting for appointments and results is always challenging but I hope the tips and advice given in this article will help.

    Kind regards,
