Red marks near nipple, what could they be?

Hello everyone, three days ago I noticed two red circles around the size of a 5 pence piece each had appeared beside my nipple on my right breast. I also have another below my nipple on my left breast however it is not as bright as these two. There is no pain, and no itchyness, they are flat and feel just like my skin however they have stayed bright red for three days now and do not seem to be going away. My nipples also seem like they have gotten larger and slightly darker lately. I can not feel any lumps, however I have been getting some pains in my right armpit and my breasts lately too.

Should I book an emergency GP appointment to have this looked at? I feel like it is probably nothing especially since I am only 22, however, I am not pregnant or breastfeeding and have never had anything like this before. My mother has also had breast cancer in the past so of course, naturally, this makes me worry a little as I have heard about IBC. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Hello megan22x and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

I think as you are worried about these red marks and that you feel that your nipples have got larger and slightly darker recently and you have been getting some pains in your right armpit and breasts, it would be worth getting a GP appointment and having these looked at. Do mention the fact your mother had breast cancer in the past as your doctor will want to know your family history but try not to worry too much though as there are so many things it could be other than cancer. It's always good though to have these issues examined by a doctor who will be in the best position to tell you what it might be and therefore will give you the reassurance you need at the moment.

Best of luck for your appointment, I hope it all goes well for you!

    Best wishes,
