Been referred - itching/? cyst?/can I see a dimple?

Has anyone had an itchy nipple/side of breast as a symptom? There is no rash, no redness, no dryness/flaking, and on seeing my doctor, she has felt what she says is a cyst in my breast. I have been referred to be seen for a mammogram/ultrasound/possible biopsy,  but in the meantime, the itching persists!

Underneath the breast I can feel a lump on my ribs (possibly from an old injury), and this breast feels smaller, and is 'empty' behind the nipple (ie I can push it right in on itself till it feels like it's almost coming out the back). I think I cam also see a dimple when i raise my arm

Obviously your mind goes places and the itching is driving me loopy (cream doesn't make a difference). I'm not sure what I'm hoping for by posting, it's just a bit of a brain dump!

  • Hi there,

I have had an itchy left nipple on and off for about a year now. It was particularly bad last April, felt almost like it was tingling inside. I went for a mammogram but thankfully nothing suspect was found and they put it down to hormones. It still happens but I guess I've got used to it. I am perimenopause age so maybe hormones playing up.

Hope you get some answers or your mind put at rest with the mammogram.

  • Thank you - it's just been a bit unsettling that the gp found lumps and I hadnt. I'm hoping the wait isn't the 6 weeks she said it might be

  • My doctor said she could feel a pea size lump in mine which I never did. It didn't show up on the mammogram either. I hope you don't have to wait 6 weeks, it was 2 weeks in the north east and even that felt forever when you are worrying.

Hope you get sorted soon, there are so many other things it could be but I know it's normal to think the worst.
