Swollen Lymph

Hi everyone, I'm 26 years of age. Very fit and healthy (I hope). With about 4+ months now I've noticed my left lymph node above by my collar bone was swollen. When I press it in, it feels squishy, not hard. I've noticed it as i've said 4+ Months ago. I'm not 100% if it has grown or not, but haven't been really keeping check. I don't think it's grown or if it has, very minimally. I eventually bit the bullet and went to see my doctor. He took some bloods and ordered me to get a ultrasound but said he isn't too worried. I would consider myslef a borderine hypochondriac so as you can imagine im absolutely terrified. Reading forums constantly for reassurance but with mixed results. I have seen from googling and forums such as this a number of side affect associated with Lymphoma such as night sweets, fatigue etc. I can't say I've any of them. My fitness has gone down a bit in the last month but I had Covid fairly bad so I put it down to that. My anxiety is absolutely through the roof and I can't focus on anything. Should I sit and wait or would ye reccomend pushing for a biopsy and all that?

  • Hello

there are lots of threads about the vaccine causing this, it did for me. Have commented lots!

while you say you have had covid, I would think it is highly likely that can also cause lymph nodes to do this. They are there to fight infection etc and covid has probably kick started it.

I went through all of the tests, I'm also getting over covid and sure my lymph node swelled again.

Try not to worry, thr ultrasound can give you the answers

  • Hey Natalie, thanks so much for the reply. I've had the swollen lymph node roughly 3 months before getting Covid. Unfortunately, I've spent too long googling and have convinced myself I have some form of lymphoma. Anxiety is through the roof.

  • Hi there, I'm pretty sure I have lymphoma too. I've had swollen painful lymph nodes in my groin for almost 2 years now and doctors aren't listening to me. I requested a doctor to call me last Friday and I'm still waiting, hoping they will ring me tomorrow because I cant take the pain anymore! I'm going to beg them to give me a scan just to check them and I really want a biopsy too! Apparently my bloods are fine, they haven't been checked in 5 months though.

Do you have a date for your ultrasound yet? I'm older than you at 35

  • Hi Rose, sorry you're going through that. My doctor said he'd book me in for an ultrasound, but I emailed the private hospital where I would be getting it and they said there's a waiting list of 4-6 weeks. If the doctor doesn't ring you, I'd go privately or if you're really worried about it, maybe go straight to the hospital and get it done there and then?  2 years is a long time. Have you any other symptoms or just the lump/Swelling? The bloods coming back fine is a good sign because although the bloods can't diagnose anything, they are a good indicator that something may not be right.

  • It is a long time and I'm sick of my inner thighs feeling like they are on fire! I've been to a&e a few times about it, I just end up waiting about 4 hours to be given pain killers and sent home. The last time I went I had a rude doctor who told me there's no point in going there because they will never do a scan there and then unless I've been involved in a bad accident! So I've never been back! I don't trust the private ultrasound place near me anymore, I had a private scan on my kidney, bladder and ovaries and was told everything was fine. Then had a scan with the NHS at hospital 2 days later and I had a kidney tumour, and tumours on each ovary! Thankfully they were benign ones, but they must have outdated equipment where I went which is shocking considering the amount of money you pay!

Its horrible waiting for scans isn't it? Atleast your on the list though and everyday that passes is one day closer to getting answers.

  • That's horrible.. have you been having any other symptoms like Fatigue, night sweats, extreme itchiness, etc? I read online that these additional symptoms can be linked to lymphoma and I've seen with other forums people have reported at least one or more of these symptoms. There's a multitude of other conditions that can cause these, but I'd imagine it's a  problem with lymph nodes, accompanied with these symptoms, may well be seen as a red flag. Thank god they were benign... were they benign tumours or cysts? I had a cyst removed from my neck when I was younger on the same side, but I doubt that has much relevance to the current situation. I'm not a medical professional by any means, but burning sensations in your legs to me would suggest an issue with the nerves, no? Have you ever talked to your doctor about that?

  • Yes I've seen a neurologist for it because 3 months after the swollen lymph nodes started I started getting buzzing and twitching in my feet on both legs which I still get now. It feels like pins and needles, but tests have come back clear so I got diagnosed with restless leg syndrome which I don't think is right because its 24/7 and no meds are helping. I think its just swollen and all the area around my lymph nodes are inflamed and aching and probably pressing on nerves.

They were tumours, the one in my kidney is called a angiomyolipoma (AML) and the ones on my ovaries are endometriomas, I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2009 and had to have one ovary removed a year ago because the gyne said my ovary just looked like one giant tumour, it had completely taken over my ovary.

I don't really have any other symptoms. Just the raw pain in my lymph nodes and horrible sensations down the legs. I have no energy and I've lost weight, but I think that's the worry, anxiety and depression I've been struggling with since this whole thing started. If the pain goes away I know ill be back to normal.
