Do smear test results go to GP before you receive a letter?

Do cervical smear results go to the GP before you receive a letter? It has been 5 weeks since my smear. I have been having some issues with bleeding so I was worried anyway. Swabs were taken also. I rang GP today and was told swabs were back clear, then I was put on hold for a few minutes. The receptionist said that the results would be sent to me in the post soon. I got the feeling that she had the results but rang through to ask if she was allowed to give them to me over the phone. Am I being paranoid???

    Hi. Do you have the NHS app? I downloaded this and all my GP records are on there. My smear results showed up on there that they were back which then led me to call up the surgery and request then from the nurse. Not sure if this will help but it helped hurry things along for me today. x

    I know this was a while ago but did your results on the app show up as blank? As in the name of each category was there, followed by a colon and no actual result? This is what has happened to me, which led to me calling the surgery too. The receptionist said normal and no action with normal recall but I am still feeling anxious about it until I receive the letter itself?xx
