2ww breast referral wait and symptoms

Hi,

I'm 38 and two weeks ago found a palpable hard lump in my left breast. Really quite scared. Waiting on clinic appt. I've had a letter saying if I've not heard by last Friday then to call, but when I call they say you 'you'll hear with an appt in the next 7-14 days'.

Any ideas how long the process actually takes?

Also wanted to ask about other symptoms? I've been having night sweats - not drenching or every night, but enough to wake me up a couple of times a week. And feeling nauseous, but wonder if that's the anxiety?
Anyone else had similar symptoms pre diagnosis?

thanks x

  • I went to the breast clinic yesterday for my two week wait appointment, the doctor was really nice she couldn't quite believe the amount of surgery lve had fortunately all benign, but it's been over the last 40; years! More scar than breast tissue on the left, she gave me a prescription for tamoxifen and referral to pain clinic hoping that they help. Instead of the usual off you go she has made me a 3 month appointment to see how l get on..
my dr made my appointment during my visit to the surgery for two weeks, and gave it to me., sounds like the hospital is looking at your referral to decide how urgent it is before sending an appointment. They seem to have different ways of making appointments in different areas,

your night sweats could be anxiety it's hard not too be worried about visiting the breast clinic for the first time and waiting doesn't help. I hope you have your appointment soon.  I was surprised how many patients had taken a friend with them the surgeon said that they have relaxed the Covid restrictions a bit now, and they are slowly getting back to normal clinic visits. Last year it was strictly no extra people in the hospital at all

    take care

  • Hi I have my appointment tomorrow I'm 37 and really worried i havent really got any other symptoms but a lump I feel sick and can't sleep etc but think it is the anxiety

  • Hi Tina

how did your appointment go today? Hope you were given some good news

  • Hi

I'm currently waiting for my 2ww appt too, told it will either be via phone call or letter and if not had an appointment given within the next week to call my drs up and they will check with the clinic as they said things could be a little slower due to Covid however it should really be the standard 2 weeks.
i also have a small lump on my left breast. It's a little tender but I know these things can often be caused by other things so I'm not too worried and no family history of BC either but there is a little nag in the back of my mind.

I am similar age and have also been have some night sweats too and been very tired but I'm putting it down to various things. I've also been having pain in my armpit too but no lump or swelling.

hooefully we will have our appointments through soon. Could you call your drs and see if they can check the hospital has definitely received the referral and how long before you will receive your appointment?

  • Thanks both for your replies. hope your appt went okay today?

I've had a letter saying if I haven't heard then to ring a number, which I've done, but they just say you'll hear with an appt within 2 weeks. Might phone my GP again tomorrow if I've not heard anything, it's 10 days now.

  • Oh no, yes definitely worth giving the dr a call and hopefully they can see where the hospital is at with it keep us posted

  • I'm there tomorrow the third of March I will update when I've been but I'm very nervous now and frightened I don't think ill find out anything tomorrow I think it will just be scans etc tomorrow xx

  • Chase it up as I didn't get a letter I had to ring up the clinic as I didn't hear so they said oh yeah we have your appointment and then sent me a text with a patient portal to log into and Confirm etc xx

  • hi scspark

i found my lump in my left breast on 6th feb , after waking up with sharp pain

gp on 7th feb who refurred my to breast clinic

had a call on 8th feb from breast clinic nurse who gave me a date 8th march

since then my father in law got rushed in hospital and passed away sadly 1 week ago , i alllso been feeling sick but could be worry or stress , im worried as im on life long warfarin so any surgery or anything to do with blood will be an issue for me

have you had any blood tests for dibeties , as my other half sweats a lot but most likely is stress etc

i have notice my nipple has started to go in on times since weekend i have noticed this

i would go back to gp and ask to chase up clinic let them know your fears etc

    take care x
