Lump in my breast + rash and discolouration

Hello everyone,

Three weeks ago, I noticed something on my right breast that looked like a rash. I didn't think any of it as I'm under quite a lot of stress. A couple days later, a sort of discolouration appeared above the rash. It's hard to describe it and you can hardly see it, it just looks like some sort of shadow. Again, didn't think it was anything to be concerned about. But a week ago, a lump appeared in the same breast.

I've had lumps in both my breasts for years, had a mammogram ten years ago that just ruled them out as just lumps of fat, so I know how they feel. This one feels different: the shape is irregular, it feels uneven, is not painful and seems to be "fixed" to my chest.

I called 111 who told me to get an appointment with a GP asap. I have an appointment next Friday - but, not gonna lie, I'm terrified. I'm only 24 so I know there are chances it's nothing serious, but I can't help but get extremely anxious about it. Plus I'm far from friends and family (I've just moved here and my relatives live in a different country).

Is there anyone with the same experience who's had a reassuring diagnosis? Any tips on dealing with the anxiety? Should I try and see someone earlier?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

sending you all loads of love and hugs with whatever hardships you're going through xx

  • Welcome to the forum LouG although I'm sorry for the worry this is causing.

Noticing any unusual symptoms or unexplained lumps is always a bit unnerving but I'm glad you sought out medical advice and have a GP appointment booked for next week. Although there's no guarantee, you could let your surgery know you're willing to take any last minute cancellations that come up if you want to try and be seen sooner.

Anxiety can be very tough to manage at times but I hope the advice given on the NHS Every Mind Matters website and the information and resources provided on Anxiety UK will help. You may want to look at this article on how to cope with waiting for news as well.

I hope my reply has helped and that some of our members offer their support and advice to you soon.

Wishing you all the best for next week Lou.

    Kind regards,
