Lump on neck- urgent ultrasound referral

Hi all,

i found a painless large lump just above my collarbone/below my neck last week. I went to the doctors last night and she has referred me for an urgent ultrasound on it. She says it does feels quite fatty rather than being solid, however of course the worry is there after seeing the 'head and neck cancer' form. I'm only 26, and my dad died of a rare cancer when I was young. I am scary silly.

any advice would be so so welcome

  • Hello Molly95,

I am sorry to hear that you have been given an urgent referral for an ultrasound. It's normal to be anxious as you are waiting to be seen and I can completely understand why you would think of what happened to your dad when you were young but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many other things this lump could be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
