Big hard lump in knee

Hello,

I have had a large hard lump on the front/top of my thigh and above my knee for quite some time. I have had it for about 10 years or more. Over this time I have seen the GP 3 times. They have all said it is a lipoma but to keep an eye on it in case it grows. I have never been for a scan, so always think how do they know it is a lipoma and nothing more? I am quite anxious so maybe that plays a part.

The lump is around 5cmx5cm (maybe bigger) and doesn't move when I press it. It does move with the musce when I bend my leg though. The muscle can become quite painful sometimes if I have stood up a long time at work or exercised. Do I go to the doctors again? Does anyone else have anything similar? I feel like a bit of an idiot going back for a fourth time if they have told me its a lipoma, but I've never had a scan so how do they know for sure?

Thank you

  • Hello rosie0604

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling concerned about a lump that you've had for quite some time now.

It's good o hear that you've already seen your GP about this lump and that they had no cause for concern. However, as you're still feeling anxious about it may be it would be a good idea to contact your GP to talk through your concerns. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance to put your mind at rest once and for all.

    Best wishes,
