Prostate Referral

Hi,

My father in law has been referred for a scan and to have bloods due to his Dr being overally unhappy with his prostate size and symptoms.

He is extremely worried as so are we.

Is there anything we can do to support him? Does anyone know what happens at the scans, what they are looking for in the bloods etc?

I am hoping he lets us in as he is a very closed man and he will be very conscious about talking about Cancer as I lost the mum to cancer 7 years ago this time.

Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum T4M2kids although I'm sorry for the worry your father in law's upcoming referral and blood tests are causing. It's completely natural for you all to be feeling this way but I'm glad you've all got each other for support.

It must be very difficult to know how to approach this situation, especially if he's a man who keeps things close to his chest, but for the moment maybe you could try and take your lead from him and just let him know you're there for him. I'm sure he will really appreciate this and when he's ready, will open up to you both and let you know what he needs.

If you'd like to find out more about what may happen at his scan, you're welcome to give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phonelines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

I'm sure some of our members will be along soon to offer you their thoughts, suggestions and advice but in the meantime, we're sending our support your way and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
