Partner awaiting urgent colonoscopy

Hi everyone, just looking for some solidarity.

My partner is male & 28 - a few weeks ago he started having irregular bowel movements (completely regular for years and a random drastic change) and a pain in his side. He couldn't go to the toilet without pain so made an appointment at GP, who have been amazing luckily. Prescribed laxatives, didn't work so then took a blood sample, stool sample & arranged an X-ray for few days later. Since then he has been really fatigued (although we do have a 9 month old at home!) and extreme pain in left side.

Well X-ray results came back today & there is something in his left hand side of his large intestine, they're not sure what it is but been referred for a colonoscopy, still awaiting results of blood & stool which should be in by Monday! they've said they don't think it's suspicious but best to get checked.

Were obviously so worried as we have a little girl at home and we're only 28 & 26. Just looking for some comforting words as I know nobody apart from the doctors can diagnose him but anyone been through anything similar/had a colonoscopy?

thanks so much everyone x

  • Hey Emmamatthew, I just saw your post and wanted to wish your partner all the best with his upcoming colonoscopy.

I'm sure some of our members who have been through something similar or had this procedure will share their experiences with you soon but I hope this information we have about the colonoscopy will help.

If either of you have any questions or would just like to talk things through with someone then you're welcome to give our cancer nurses team a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k and the blood and stool results bring good news on Monday.

    Kind regards,
