Chronic HPV

I'm hoping to relate somebody on here who has or had the hpv virus for more 3 years. Hpv has been active for the 2nd time for a little more than 3 years.

I have yearly checks at colposcopy although my last 1 was very confusing. Doc advised no abnormal cells although wanted to do cryotherapy. So I attended my appointment mentally ready for the procedure only to be told that it can't be carried out as I had a lletz procedure 5 years prior for cin3 also hpv virus active. I was told no other procedure can be done after lletz.

I dont actually know what she would have removed if there were no abnormal cells? As the virus can't be removed only abnormal cells can.

So now I'm left to wait a year, we'll another 6 months feeling confused and stressed knowing I have this high risk virus that will highly likely cause cervical cancer if the virus stays active. Feel like a ticking time bomb.

I often get pain in my pelvis, very heavy periods. Migranes,Night sweats and acne I'm age 38. I do wonder if these symptoms are related to the hpv virus.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are well. X

  • Hello Mrs-B,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand why you are feeling confused by it all.

Perhaps you could talk things through with our cancer nurses who will be able to explain to you in more detail what it all means. You can call them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Try not to worry too much as HPV is very common - talk to your doctor if you want about your fears and I am sure they will be able to reassure you. Mention these symptoms you are concerned about to your doctor and I am sure they will be able to tell you more about whether these symptoms are related to HPV or not. There is information on this page on our website about HPV which explains in detail what HPV is and which I hope will answer any questions you might have about this virus.

I hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have been in a similar place before and that they will be along to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
