Symptoms

I'm a 44yr old mum of 2, I've had an enlarged breast for about 5 months now and itchy in one armpit today I managed to get a face to face doctors appointment they are referring me to a clinic doctor said he felt a mass I feel all different things at different times of the month so I never know if there are lumps or not in the breast- but I also get the most horrific hot pain in my right shin bone at various times  and both side of my pelvis when lying down  - could All this be connected and I am so frightened I've left it too late and cancer has spread everywhere. I also have what I thought was small black head type spots on the enlarged breast but am now wondering if it's 'dimpling'

  • Hello Mumrules and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

You did the right thing to get in touch with your doctor and it's great you managed to get a face to face appointment and that your doctor was very thorough and has referred you to the breast clinic where they will have the expertise to look into this more closely.

When you have your appointment at the breast clinic it would be worth mentioning these other symptoms you are worried about especially the spots you noticed on the enlarged breast. But don't assume that these are necessarily connected - there might be all sorts of explanations for your symptoms and only a medical expert will be able to reassure you properly and tell you what each issue might be.

There is useful information on the breast cancer care website on what to expect at a breast clinic appointment. I hope it will shed some light on what might happen during your appointment.

All you can do for now is wait which is by no means easy in itself. You can read more on this page on how to cope while waiting for important news. Try not to worry too much if you can or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
