Scared I have bowel cancer

Hi

I need someone to talk to, I'm going out of my mind with worry that I have bowel cancer. I'm 33 years old and overweight

It all started at start of December last year I had a sudden onset of acid reflux and felt very dizzy. I went to the doctors who prescribed me omeprazole but it didn't work. I couldn't eat and felt so unwell. The acid reflux settled down after a few weeks but then I started to get severe lower abdominal pain, hurts everytime I eat and diareah. My stomach is bloated and I'm constantly fatigued. I have seen blood in my stool 3 times and it hurts when i have a bowel movement. My stomach now just constantly hurts. I haven't left the house in a few weeks cos I feel so ill. I'm waiting to have a colonoscopy and it I've not had an appointment through yet. I'm so worried. Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks in advance

  • Hello, Husky!

We both share very similar symptoms, and we're in the same boat of waiting for a colonoscopy! The abdomen and stomach are very very sensitive areas of the body, new research has shown an incredibly strong link between the brain and the guts, they can quite easily affect each other! I know my stress makes my stomach feel awful, and sore, as well as my guts! I noticed a small amount of blood on my stool a few months ago, and had a physical exam by a doctor who felt internal heamorrhoids, which is by far the most common cause of bleeding! Have you had a physical exam by a doctor yet? It might be a good place to start.

  • Dear Husky,

I feel that l am in the same boat as you. I am awaiting a CT scan (urgent referral) and the results from a Calprotein test (not sure if the spg is correct). I have had a pain in my left side for several weeks, pretty bad diarrhoea, bloating and cramping. I also had bleeding (bright red) 3 times last week. I am so afraid.

  • Did your symptoms settle or did you get an answer?
