Awaiting MDT decision

Hi all,

New poster here. I am currently awaiting a decision/diagnosis from the MDT committee last Friday having attended an urgent referral a week last Monday. I just wondered how long it will take to find out the results of this discussion and how I will be informed? The consultant didn't really offer much information in this respect and I wasn't really firing on all cylinders enough to ask the right questions.

The context is this: Had pain in the lower part of my abdomen on boxing day this year and assumed it was just over-indulgence on Christmas day. By boxing day I realised that the pain was actually originating/worse in my right testicle. Went to walk-in-centre on the 27th and was diagnosed with an infection (I am a Type 1 Diabetic and have certainly had other infections over the years) and provided with antibiotiics. A week later and my testicle had swollen significantly so I booked time with my GP who diagnosed Orchitis and provided me with some different antibiotics and referred me for a Sonography scan but was told it was highly unlikely to be cancer. The swelling then went down over the following week.

I attended the Sonography scan and was told that they had found an 'unusual texture' and unable to rule-out malignancy, and sent me back to the GP for an urgent referral. Met with consultant at this referral who says a small lump can be seen within the testicle, but it is not clear whether it was malignant or not (my symptoms are not the typical of the cancer suspected) and would require discussion at MDT, and sent me for cancer marker blood tests.

I am now in a similar boat to others here in having a very anxious wait to hear from the MDT and don't know what to expect. I have also foolishly made the mistake of googling!

Sorry for the overly long and detailed post - it was strangely cathartic just writing it.

  • As this is your first time posting with us I wanted to stop by to say hello and welcome you to the forum, HoobieDoobie.

While I can't tell you how long it will be until you get your test results what I can say is that many of our members will understand exactly how you're feeling at the moment and I hope some of them will be here shortly to chat with you.

The waiting game can be hard and it doesn't help that Dr. Google seem to point us, always, to the darkest of prospects whenever we invoke its powers so it might be a good idea to refrain from doing so if you can.

That being said, if you find yourself too worried though and feel that speaking with someone medically trained might help until you get to see your medical team again, our lovely team of nurses can be reached on this number 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps a bit.

    With best wishes,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank you for replying and for offering some re-assuring advice. I have now had an appointment letter through to see a urology oncologist on the 24th, so I am presuming the worst but obviously won't know until I see her.

    Thanks again,

    Hoobie

  • Just to let anyone else in a similar situation know, I am now in for surgery to have the offending testicle removed next week. Things moved rapidly once I had heard back from the MDT.
