Biopsy of the womb lining

Hi

I feel a bit silly but I am finding it difficult waiting for the results of my womb biopsy.
I am 50 in April and stopped having periods 2.5 years ago and in August last year I had a small bleed. I went to the doctors, she wasn't concerned and said that as I was under 50 it was usually only a concern if you had bleeding after 2 years. I said it was only a month until the 2 years and only 6 months until I was 50. She agreed to refer me. I had almost forgotten about it and then got an appointment for a scan January just gone.

I got a phone call from my GP a few days later saying I had unexpected womb thickening and she wanted me to have a camera take a further look , 2 days later I got a scary letter saying it could be cancer ( it did also say that 9/10 people referred in this way didn't have it) I got an appointment through for the following week 31st Jan for the hospital. No information, just assumed it was for a camera investigation. When I got there they informed me that I didn't need that as I had already had an ultrasound on my abdomen and transvaginal so they were taking a biopsy.
after she had taken the biopsy she said it was going to take about 3 weeks for the results. I am now 2 weeks and a day in , I have managed to keep busy with work (I work in a school) and we have just been away for the weekend but now I am off for half term and been having terrible period like pain and pain in my lower back . Now I am going out of my mind waiting. I keep telling myself it's probably going to be nothing, the Dr who took the biopsy said she wasn't expecting any surprises from the results , anything sinister so I don't even know why I am worrying.
Thank you for reading

xx

  • As I noticed this is your first time posting on the forum I just wanted to come by to say hello and welcome you to our community, kaymax9672.

Many of our members will understand exactly what you are going through at the moment after having gone for all these tests and still waiting to hear from your doctors and I hope that some of them will come along shortly to talk with you, as chatting with those who can relate does seem to help.

In the meantime, try to keep busy as you have been doing and think, you've done everything you could possibly so worrying about it before the day you see the doctor comes won't help much.

If you find yourself too bothered though and feel like asking someone with a medical background some questions, feel free to ring our team of nurses, they're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040

Once you know more, if you find a minute, come back and give us an update. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you.

    With best wishes,
