Post menopausal bleeding

Hi there.

sorry if this goes on a bit!

I'm 59 and obviously very post menopausal. Have had 2 mirena coils, the last one is still in there despite it expiring in 2019. My mind is really working overtime here. I've had a light bleed now for a couple of weeks, got a bit heavier for a day in the second week so called Doctor and am seeing specialist tomorrow. I have that heavy feeling in the bottom of my pelvis and back ache and need to pee a lot as well at the moment. I've already convinced myself I've got uterine cancer of some sort. I've googled everything and can't see past the C word. I have a prolapse as well. And to top it all i had Covid when all of this happened which hit me quite hard. I am so acted I can't concentrate on anything, feel sick can't sleep and feel so low I just want to cry all the time.  I don't know how I'm going to cope with the waits between tests.

  • Hi Mandee and welcome to the forum.

How did your appointment go with the specialist yesterday? I really do hope they were able to answer your questions and put your mind at ease about your symptoms but if there is still anything playing on your mind since you spoke with them then you're very welcome to give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you at this time.

As you say, the wait between tests and results is always tough but I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help.

I know you've had a lot to contend with but fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to reply Steph.
The consultant was lovely. And really explained everything to me. As I'm sure you've heard a thousand times, the chances of cancer are 10-15% for and 85% against. He said I have some extra points as have had children, had a coil fitted and wasn't obese(even though I pointed out that I have been for much of my life so he is my new best friend now!). He took a biopsy there and then and removed my coil as it ran out in 2019, and has booked me in for an urgent MRI. I have a couple of prolapses going on in there which have worsened over time which he explained would account for some of the several pains I get, and that he would refer me for prolapse surgery once this problem is sorted. He said from what he could see everything seemed normal but obviously couldn't see what was going on past the neck of the womb. I am still very worried, but do feel more reassured now the process has started, it's just about keeping all this in mind and not starting to overthink things again when I'm on my own. I do suffer from anxiety.
I will read through the article you've suggested for hints as well. I've been on the 2 week fast track for breast lumps twice in the last few years which have proved to be nothing serious and somehow have been feeling like my luck has to run out at some point which I know isn't the way to deal with it but just seems to have been ordeal after ordeal for the last few years.
    Thanks for your kind words.
