I'm so sorry to hear you are worried, this is sadly to be expected when any mole is removed. I am new to moles/biopsy's but I'm having the same huge worries as you as my daughter (16) had a mole removed on Thursday. I am so scared and every waking moment my thoughts are about cancer. I am convinced she has a melanoma based on the GP's personal view & characteristics of the mole. In our case the consultant did not give any reassurance. He kept saying he didn't like it and it had dust and white cells in it, which means nothing to me, but is worrying as I assume that's not normal  I don't know what consultants normally say. I doubt the consultant can tell to any accuracy if it is a melanoma or what stage, so it is a waiting game. 
I am not exactly mastering this advice, but try to carry on with activities, talk to friends and take each day at a time. 

Thank you for your reply. As a parent and grandparent I can only imagine your worries. The waiting for results is agonising with the worry that it brings. Not knowing is the hard part. I guess like yourself and many others all sorts of scenarios run through the head. I guess that is perfectly normal as we don't have the information we need. I am trying to keep as busy as possible but find it hard to concentrate. I wish the best possible outcome for your daughter and your family. I may well be a frequent visitor to this site as I move forward.

Wishing you all the best too. We always fear the worst, but let's hope we both get good outcomes. I listened to an online talk last night about how much melanoma treatments have advanced in recent years, so good news in the event you or my daughter need treatment. 

I hope someone else will join this chat, who can offer comfort and answer your questions about whether a consultant can tell before a biopsy.

I have actually have 2 moles removed previously that were suspicious (both in my teens, now almost 30) and both ended up being completely fine, so fingers crossed for you! I'm sadly going through the same thing but this one is different and I've been referred to a skin cancer clinic urgently, for which I have an appointment next week.

Isn't the wait awful? :(

We got the results yesterday, it was a melanoma but we have a treatment plan. Awful time, that truthfully right now I'm not sure how we will get through each day, but we have to, so we will find a way.
Good luck with your appointment, it's much better to be going and getting answers, although the wait is agony. Keeping everything crossed for you.

Hi Andi, I'm so sorry to read the news of your daughter.

My sister just discovered a mole on my back (I have had two moles removed previously that I was told would have turned cancerous) the mole isn't round and has two black dots inside. I am going out of my mind with worry and counting down for the doctors to open tomorrow. I am 28 with two daughters under 4. May I ask the treatment your daughter is having going forward? What were your wait times like?

That is reassuring to hear they removed your daughters mole on the day of going to the dermatologist. This is the time scale I'm worried about as I believe the dermatologist has to see you within 2 weeks and then 2 weeks to remove it. 
 

I don't live with my sister, she spotted it on our weekend away, the mole is actually covered by my bra strap so I don't actually know how long it's been there. My husband didn't spot it sadly.
