Bile duct cancer question

Hi,

My dad who was perfectly healthy up until a couple of weeks ago suddenly became jaundiced, and after ultrasound and ct scans they said there is something abnormal around his ampullary duct. It looks like it has folded over they said. His sodium levels are also very low. They've taken biopsies from around the area, they also tried to fit a stent but failed and so have a PTC drain fitted at the moment to drain the bile.

I've read about this type of cancer and saw the poor prognosis it has. Please tell me is there anything else this could be instead of cancer as we wait for the results? They said it could take 2 -4 weeks. I'm heartbroken. Is cancer the only possible diagnosis based on the above?

Thanks

  • Welcome to the forum My_poor_dad although I'm sorry to hear your dad is unwell.

Unfortunately no-one here can answer these questions but hopefully the results will come through sooner rather than later, and you'll finally find out what's going on.

I know this must be very worrying, but our community are here for you and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support whilst you wait.

If you'd like to speak with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome My_poor_dad.

    Kind regards,
