Sore throat for 5 weeks

Hello everyone,  I spent most my weekend reading this forum with symptoms that are so much like my own.  I have had throat issues for some weeks now,  Hard to really dettermine when it all started but noticed i seemed to be swallowing an awful lot like mucus was running down the back of  my nose into my throat.  Then noticed some soreness to throat but nothing excruciating , just annoying .  This went on for some weeks and then I  noticed a lumpy texture when swallowing.  Looked in the mirror and noticed one side of my throat around the left tonsil was quite red and my throat was an odd shape on one side.  The tonsil seeming to protrude more on the left and the archy flesh at the back and to left of uvula was not the same shape as my right.  Symptoms seem to alter daily .  I dont feel ill but do get tired.  Throat goes from being very dry in that i want to clear it or the opposite whereby  i  am swallowing constantly what feels like mucus .  I was given antibioctics following a call to a Duty GP two weeks ago  but these did notthing,  so slightly concerned knowing that prolonged throat issues can be related to cancer.  I have no cough whatsoever .. or pain in neck or jaw.

Today `i  managed to get to see my GP and she clearly said things did not look right and has referred me to ENT, she said the wiating list is presently one year so she would refer me under an emergency visit and not to be alarmed when the letter speaks of cancer refereal clinic.. of course straight away  my anxieity is now throught the roof  i am 52F ..
