Nipple changes

So I went to see GP about thickened skin around my nopple. She has referred me to the breast team on a fast track. I asked what her gut said and she was honest, she didn't know.

She said my symptoms aren't what is usually reported although she can see (and feel) the areola changes in both touch and sight.  The areola appears to have grown and my left breast is now larger than the right, nb I  am right hand dominant.

Has anyone had similar issues to me?  I can find nothing on the Internet except pagets disease but again my symptoms don't quite line up.

Help?

    HI VickiV,

A very wrm welcome to our forum.

We always advise people to avoid the internet at this stage, as without having a diagnosis, our imaginations lead us to the more scary stories and only serve to heighten our anxiety. No two cancers are exactly the same, so it is impossible for us to say what your diagnosis might be. You are doing the right thing by getting this investigated.

Most breast changes are not cancerous. Some are benign cysts, fibrous or hormonal changes. It is a fact that out of all the people who attend the breast clinic, only 1 person in 8 will receive a cancer diagnosis. You should get your appointment within 2 weeks from the date offerral, although this can take a little longer in areas where Covid is an issue.

I do hope that you hear soon and that all turns out well. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
