Enlarged lymph nodes

Hello,

My 7 year old daughter is booked to see a specialist tomorrow in children's oncology outpatients. We found some enlarged lymph nodes on her neck (3 on the left side and one on the right) over new year so dr referred her to specialist to 'rule out' anything nasty. She has had no infection/cough/cold or anything for many months so another reason why GP has referred. She has no other symptoms either and is generally fine in herself, good appetite/not losing weight/no night sweats etc.
My question is what can I expect tomorrow at the hospital? What tests? Will they be able to tell me results straight away? Do Biopsies ever happen at first appointment with specialist or not? I just want to be prepared. She has already had bloods taken at GP but have not had results yet.

thank you xx

  • Hello Kstrongy_87

I noticed that you were due at the hospital today for an appointment with your daughter. I just wanted to post to ask how you got on.

I hope that the team was able to give you some information and reassurance about the raised lymph nodes you've noticed recently.

Let us know how things went if you're able to.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply,

The appointment went well. The consultant had a good feel and felt her tummy also and asked about her general health which is fine. He said that lymph nodes and stay raised for up to a year sometimes more and also that because she is tall and lean that they are easier to notice. He said he wanted to 'cross the T's and dot the i's' so sent her for a chest X-ray whilst we were there, afterwards we went back to children's outpatients where he told us that it all looked normal to him and that we would get a full report within a few days in the post and she could be discharged. So a big relief! He did say to keep an eye and the lymph nodes and if they change or she starts with other symptoms (night sweats/poor appetite/weight loss/strange bruising or bleeding) then to get in touch again. Also her full blood count was normal also so that's good.
I hope this thread helps someone going through similar .
