Leukaemia worries

I'm 37 year old healthy female. Never had any reply health issues until last few weeks when I've had a culmination of issues. The most annoying being a tight chest all the time.

I initially had upper back pain and now I have awful aching bone pain in upper arms and upper legs. Struggling to sleep with a combination of the heavy chest and pain.

My GP who I have seen about 10 times in last few weeks gave me antibiotics in case of infection, various inhalers nothing of which has helped. I also had a chest xray which was clear

I'm exhausted all the time, have sore gums (not bleeding just swollen) and the last few days I've had some random bruises pop up on my upper leg.

The culmination of these things has me worried it could be leukaemia. I mentioned this to GP but they didn't seem that concerned. Have requested bloods but no appointments available until 3 weeks. I'm worried that if it is bad news the additional 3 week wait in something like this could be detrimental.

Am I losing my mind or does this sound like a logical explanation?

  • Anyone out there with Leukaemia experience that bad these kind of symptoms? X

  • Hello Jo22Jo,

I can understand why you are feeling worried about these symptoms especially as you have noticed some random bruises popping up on your upper leg. But try not to draw any conclusions that it might be leukaemia as there are so many other conditions that could be associated with these symptoms. It is best to resist the temptation to look anything up online as this will inevitably give you the worst possible cases and make you even more anxious. You've done the right thing to flag these issues with your doctor and if you feel that they are not taking your concerns seriously, it would be worth getting a second opinion just to give you peace of mind. It's a shame you are having to wait 3 weeks for bloods and I hope that you will succeed in getting an earlier appointment but it's good that you will be having your bloods checked at the earliest opportunity.

I can understand why you feel you are losing your mind as you are waiting to find out more and may be feeling a little bit  like you are not getting anywhere at the moment. But hopefully you will be in the best capable hands and the doctors will get to the bottom of this soon. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion and to tell them everything about your current symptoms.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your response. I called my GP again today as feeling dreadful and she rushed me in for urgent bloods rather than the 3 week wait. So hopefully I get some news soon
