Inconclusive neck biopsy

I had an ultrasound on a lump in my neck that had been there for a few months (it was hard and immovable). I was told that the lymph node looked abnormal on the scan so had a fine beedle aspiration biopsy done there and then.

I have been told that the results are inconclusive and the bext stage is a CT scan. Does anyone have any experience of this? I presumed they would repeat the biopsy or remove the lymph node completely. I am so anxious at the thought of waiting for more tests and still not getting any definite answers

  • Hello HH30,

Being given inconclusive results is really hard as it is bound to make you feel even more uncertain and that you haven't been given the answers you so much needed. It prolongs the anxiety you've already been feeling as you were waiting to find out more. It seems that they have decided to look at this more closely through the CT scan and I hope that you won't have to wait too long for the scan results. It's normal to feel anxious at the thought of having to wait for more tests and feeling like you are not getting anywhere but it's just a matter of time now before you find out exactly what you are dealing with.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

Best wishes and best of luck for the CT scan,
