Ultrasound after colposcopy. Normal for cervical cancer?

I need some advice.

My doctor is suspicious I have cervical cancer so I've had a colposcopy and the doctor says it's standard procedure now to have a ultrasound too.

Is this right? I'm freaking out cos this wasn't a concern before but maybe they need to do this now cos I'm 31 and last time I was 24.

Has anyone ever had this when they have reported cervical cancer symptoms to Dr? What happened?

  • Hi Becca

In my personal experience of cervical cancer, an ultrasound wasn’t done at all. It’s not a usual diagnostic test for cervical cancer, which is diagnosed normally by a biopsy followed by other scans, usually mri, ct and/or pet.

Perhaps you are having it to have a better look at the pelvic area in general? The reason they will have ordered the test is because of symptoms you are having, and not because of your age. x
