Dr referral to the breast clinic. What will happen at appt?

hi all

i went to gp on monday  who after examination said she could feel mass or thickening 3cm by 2 cm  has referred me to breast clinic said i should here within 3 weeks , she dont think its to concerning as i have discomfort

on tuesday morning i had a call with thier earlist appointment date on the 8th march

i asked what would roughly happen, nice lady on the phone said " you will have a mamagram , see consultant same day , and if need any other scan or biopsy also same day "

so starting to panic little what has gp not told me , is it normal to have extra test same day if needed ?

trying my hardest to stay away from dr google

got to try stay positive next 4 weeks

  • Hiya

hope your ok ... I've had my op today and fingers crossed all is well . they told me it went well and I'll be going back in 2 weeks for my results.
that's my rant about myself LOL

please stay positive and go with all the test they offer it's for the best .... scary I know . I went in with abscess so much pain and 3 lots of antibiotics didn't touch it . So I had a mammogram and ultrasound ( age 44 ) I never thought for one minute I'd have to go through this before my 50s . They picked something up on the ultrasound and said I'd have to have biopsy when I was in less pain . I went back to the hospital for a check up and they did the biopsy. Turned my Xmas upside thing nothing but the worst . I got called back for my results in the jan and yes it was the dreaded cancer . They told me I had the most common one and was treatable. Can't say it was much comfort. All I want to say is please stay positive your not alone .

  • thanks all

im just over thinking trying not to , i have been wrtting down auntie uncles cousins etc who who was and had cancer incase im asked

i think the wait is just getting to me

  • Your only human chick ... no matter what the outcome stay positive your in safe hands . I'm so proud of myself and it's nothing to be ashamed or scared off . I was just like you and last week I finished work telling people I'd be off for an op .. and the support is amazing . I found it's good to talk . Don't lock yourself away .
    big hugs and love ️

  • Hi, my experience was that the GP felt the lump and asked me questions, then he did the referal to the Breast Clinic there and then.

I went along to the Breast Clinic at the Hospital where the consultant examined me, he then sent me along for a mammogram, then based on those results I was given a breast biopsy straight after the mammogram on the same day - core biopsy I believe it was called.. So it seems that if the mammogram shows something they do the biopsies straight after on the same day - that was how it was for me.

I did not enjoy the biopsies at all but realise they needed doing.

They let me know they were concerned, I did find it all emotionally very very difficult but they were all very kind.

I expected the worst to be honest and at the next follow up appointment they let me know it was cancer I am being referred to and Oncologist for treatment.

None of it feels real to be honest and just going through the process hoping for the best. There are people with amazing outcomes so I am focussing on that to be honest. Sometimes Google can be good in seeing how well people are doing on treatments.

Best wishes, I hope it goes well for you, I know how terrifying it is x

  • hugs

my gp asked me the same questions the closet relative to my self is my fathers 2 sister had breast cancer , on my mother side its 2nd cousins and a few great aunties

my sister has yearly smears as she had abnormal cells

i thought it was a welsh thing where extra test be done same day

im on life long warfarin so thought of having biopsy should be fun if i bled afterwards or they have to cut

  • As far as I remember they did ask if I was on any blood thinners etc, but if not definitley let them know that you are. I'm not and I did bleed which didn't stop straight away they had to apply pressure for a while. The pain killing injections work though.

I really hope it goes OK for you, it was over very quickly. x
