Hpv & abnormal cells

Hey ladies, just popping on as I'm worried sick. Furious with myself for neglecting myself having my first smear at 30yrs of age with a 14yr old and 7 yr old but it is what it is now I suppose!

smear came back hpv positive and abnormal cells. Have the colposcopy clinic in two wks but I'm wondering if I should go back to the doctor for an urgent referral. I'm having a dull ache, heaviness in pelvis for a long time now coming and going but I never took much notice of it. Had BV in October but now have slightly yellow discharge(no smell) back again, lower back pain and terrible pain in my groin and left leg tonight.

i don't know if I'm looking into it too much? I wasn't too worried all along but I'm a nervous wreck right now. Did any of you ladies have similar and if so what was the outcome?

i think I'm going to ring my doctor tomorrow, feel like I'm been a bit dramatic tho

  • Hey! I was late getting a smear and mine also came back as high risk hpv with low grade cell changes. I was absolutely beside myself with worry. I went to the hospital appointment for the colposcopy and I won't lie it did hurt me but I have had the advice to take some pain relief before. I had a biopsy which was not painful and invited to go back for a smear in a year. I did that in January and I have the same results. The procedure itself is really nothing to worry about and if you need treatment it's usually done there and then. It is scary to think that something is wrong but if you keep your appointments help and treatment is there. If you have worries just call your doctor as it's always best to get things looked at. Low grade cell changes aren't cancer don't forget. It's natural to worry about the unknown. I am having a wobble today because the letter only just came but I have to remind myself that if I need treatment it will be OK. We are doing the right thing by keeping appointments and being proactive.

  • Pinky, thank you so much for your reply.

im not sure what grade cells I have etc but it didn't really worry me until I put two and two together with these pains. Now im terrified as I have all symptoms of cancer for a while but never went about it.

I suppose il just have to wait and see what the outcome is. Thank you again

  • I get you are worried we are mom's and we are hard wired to worry. Read the letter that came with your appointment and I am very sure that if you have any concerns or questions you can ring up the department and speak to someone. When I rang up with my first appointment they were great. Don't forget they deal with ladies who are going through the same thing everyday. My letter said I had low grade cell changes and high risk hpv and then went on to say what that meant. Then there was a leaflet with advice on the procedure etc. If you havent got that information just call them. Address your worries, face those fears and get all the help you need.
