Urgent Appointment but no time?

I have just recently been referred back to the consultant haematologist and the letter just says a date as to when he is going to phone me but no time. (I had to do blood tests as standard)

This is the first time this has happened and the letter states for me not to ring the secretary.

Had a chest xray that showed abnormalities on the left side.

Has anyone else had this issue- appointment date but no time?

I am beside myself with worry as I had a Lymphoma scare back in 2018 and im not sure what to think.

The appointment is next week

  • Hello Lunaipse

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting on some test results at the moment. We know that this can be a difficult period of time for many people and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

Since Covid began we know that more and more patients are having telephone appointments. This was something that was virtually unheard of previously but with restrictions and staff shortages many departments have found that telephone appointments can work well in making sure patients have news as soon as possible.

It's not hugely helpful to have a date with no time for the appointment. Even if you had a time frame of a few hours that would be helpful, particularly if you're not able to be near the phone all day. If you have other commitments that day then don't be afraid to get in touch with the hospital and let them know. It may be that they can tell you if the phonecall will be morning or afternoon or they may be able to give you a window of time in which you can expect the call. If you would rather not call the secretary or clinic then get in touch with the hospital PALS team for some support.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk through your concerns with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them for some advice and support. they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
