Lump under armpit/top of left breast

Morning,

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to what I'm currently going through. Three weeks ago I awoke to armpit pain. After having a feel around I discovered a lump. I went to my GP who thought it was a lymp node- although I no obvious symptoms of an infection. She asked to see me again in three weeks time. I left feeling relatively reassured.

However, as time as passed, the pain has disappeared but the lump has not. It's very moveable but difficult to describe the size. When my arm is relaxed it feels like a typical bean shape but when my arm is lifted feels more like a grape. I've even began to question if there are in fact two lumps in the same place- but perhaps this is just my anxiety running wild with me.

I'm going to make an appointment with the GP tomorrow. I'm really, really anxious about it and haven't been sleeping. I woke up sweating a number of times last night which has added to the anxiety. I went through a cancer scare this time last year and I think it's left me with health anxiety. I have two small children and the what ifs are petrifying me.

I'd be grateful to hear off anyone who has been through anything similar.

P.S Just had another feel around my breast. I can also feel a tiny lump, maybe as big as a pen top? And a slightly enlarged lymph node in addition to the other lump. So definitely 3 in total. Totally freaking out!

  • Hi Grace,

Sorry that you find yourself here after finding a lump and now finding more. I recently had the similar and was terrified thinking the worst. I first found a lumpy area and then found at least one other. I have been to the breast clinic now and I have several harmless cysts. I have at least 4 I can feel now, as they weren't drained or anything. Usually pain isn't associated with cancer and being moveable is another positive, but it is always a good idea to get it checked. I can understand the anxiety as I was a mess and think I have health anxiety too at times as I'm still not 100% settled due to the lumps still being there. I hope your GP refers you to the breast clinic and you are seen soon. Wishing you the best of luck and hope it's a positive outcome. x

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it's reassuring to hear from someone whose been through something similar with a positive result!

I think it takes time for anxiety to settle when you've had a health scare- so hoping you feel less anxious soon.

thank you for you well wishes

    take care,

  • Hi Grace

I hope your well, I have sort of the same found 2 tiny lumps under my armpit last year, but didn't think anything of it due to being pregnant and had a lot of health problems going on. In January this year I went to the doctors and they said they feel like my glands were up but just to keep and eye on them and go back after I had baby or got bigger.

I had my baby 6 days ago and the 2 lumps have tripled in size, and I can feel a lump in my breast to now. so I took a trip back to the doctors, they are referring me to a breast screening test just to rule everything out, but she thinks they maybe just cysts. So now im just waiting on my appointment to come through. Mine aren't painful but to be on safe side just pop by to doctors and get them checked out.

    Hope this helps x

  • Hi Grace, sorry to read you are going through this. It's absolutely awful, I think we can all fully sympathise.

Like you I have health anxiety and I'm at that point now where I can't tell if my lump in my armpit does move, is it sore or am I imagining it because I want it to be.

My GP thinks it's a lymph node. Could yours be? Have you been under the weather lately? I haven't so I'm not sure about it but I am in the early stages of pregnancy so clinging on to that. But again like you I have a daughter and this makes me worry so much more with the what ifs. I want to cry when I look at her.

Definitely get to your GP and get referred. Chances are everything will be fine. The earlier you get seen the better I think!

    Good Luck!

  • Hi. I worried myself sick over the last week reading everything online. I have been in a similar situation. I had armpit pain and then found a lump in my right breast on the outer side. My anxiety was through the roof (which I suffer from anyway) but I was getting all sorts of symptoms thinking this was it. anyway, I've been to the breast clinic today and I was seen by the consultant and then had an ultrasound. It was benign hard fatty tissue. The pain is hormonal and also I need to get my breasts properly as haven't for ages!

  • [@SnoopyB]‍ i had this issue when I was pregnant I got a lump in my right armpit and it was there until I had my baby and then it disappeared after a few months! I had a scan on it and it just fatty tissue with the hormonal changes. I've now learnt it's quite common!
