Ovarian cyst and high ca125

I'm adding this post as a partner of someone who has been suffering with a large ovarian cyst and received a raised ca125 result and also to offer some words of solace to other sufferers.

Like most, after receiving all the test results, we feared the worst, it's hard not to with the internet...looking at how long the expectancy was, what next etc etc....and also how do we explain to our young son.

This forum was a great help and offered lots of help and for that I'm eternally thankful.

Within a month of the raised ca125 levels, CT scan and MRI scan done, and a few tellings off from professionals for believing everything we read on the internet, endometriosis diagnosed and hysterectomy done and 12cm diameter cyst removed.

Lots of people in a similar position to us and just want to say to those people, stay positive, stay strong, and as difficult as it is, try not to believe everything from Dr Google.

A massive thanks to this forum and all the brave people who shared their experiences, helped the both of us through some very dark times

  • Hi MrBside,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post here about the experience that you and your partner had.

These sorts of posts are always useful for others who will look at the forum in future, and can hopefully help to provide some reassurance to some people.

I'm very glad to hear that the forum has been a help to you both.

Thanks again and wishing you all the best,

  • Thankyou so much for your post it's gave me a little reassurance, I too have been on doctor google !  I'm feeling so sick and worried.

I had a transplant 4 months ago  had 2 ultrasounds in yhe first week of transplant but no mention of cyst, on the 3rd ultrasound they they told me there was a  9cm cyst on my left ovary, (they did a ct prior to op months before and notified me of a cyst but wasn't anything else said,)  so when they said it was 9cm I started panicking, the ultrasound department said it does not look like the typical cancerous cyst and not to worry.

I went for my appointment at my transplant clinic and they said the same but would refer me to gynecology just for reassurance, I'm still waiting for appointment but in the meantime I had really heavy periods so rang my gp he referred me for a pelvic scan yesterday, the sonographer also done an internal when she used the ultrasound she said it was now 10 cm but doesn't look cancerous and doesn't have the typical traits for ovarian cancer cyst,  she then asked could she do the internal scan I said yes which she did but told me she was unable to see what it was filled with as couldn't get round it, I do have a transplanted kidney in that side too.

Today I have had a phonecal I'm on the emergency list from gp I'm waiting now for it and I'm terrified, hoping mine is something that can be treated and just taken out I feel sick with worry you always think the worst. Xx

  • Know exactly what you're going through and totally understand.

My partner is now home following her op on Friday.....the cyst she had was 10cm and that's now gone along with everything else....full hysterectomy was done.

Try and stay positive..... difficult I know especially when you read everything like we did.

As for the scan, we had same issue due to shadowing....did little to settle us down but the NHS have been unbelievable and cannot praise them enough.

    Fingers crossed for you xx

  • Thanks so much dr did ring i have some abnormality around the cyst and some fluid  in my womb and it looks an odd shape too he said its actually 9x8 cm, he said fluid could be from my recent transplant ioperation but he wants to fast track me for all the relevant tests, hoping I'll be okay ca125  test booked for the 16th and  mri scan  to follow glad everything went well too xx
