Worried about oral cancer

Hi

I am so anxious about a lesion on my tongue that isn't healing. I have had it for a couple of months and it hasn't gone down it seems to be getting more noticeable. It doesn't hurt too much but sometimes it does feel a bit sore and look more red. I am worried about it being oral cancer. I have been to the doctors and they just said it is Oral thrush and gave me some medication. However, in my gut I just feel that this isn't the case, I took the medication and nothing has improved. I am so upset about this and I am worried about going back to the doctors as I feel as though they don't fully explore every possibility. I am only in my twenties and feel as though they don't see it as being anything bad because of my age.

please can anybody just advise me on what it could be as I am feeling extremely anxious and don't know what else to do.

I have regular dental checkups.

The lesion is on my right side of my tongue, has a white outline round it and is a circular shape, it sometimes looks to have blood in it and seems to be getting bigger. I also have a constant feeling of something stuck in my throat and constantly have to swallow.

  • Hi sunshine-.,

I'm sorry to hear of your worries. Do try to take some reassurance from your doctor's opinion if you can - if they had any concerns at all then they would have suggested further tests or follow-ups.

If things don't improve and/or you continue to be concerned, the only thing to do would be to see your doctor again. You can always ask for a second opinion from a different doctor if you'd rather not see the same person again.

    All the best,
