Pagets and excema

I suffer with stress excema. About 5 months ago I started to itch on my left nipple and some watery discharge. Suffering excema I though it was just that - symptoms are same as other places on my body . At Xmas I had a massive excema flare up which led me to go to my doctor who gave me a course of antibiotics as my excema had become infected (on my face). I'd mentioned about my left nipple and he suggested waiting until the course of antibiotics was finished. Today was my follow up appointment. My face excema has calmed down. My left nipple is the same if not a little more inflamed. He took a look at this and has immediately referred me indicating it may well be pagets. I'd never heard of this before and am now terrified but regretful I didnt seek medical advice sooner. Just waiting now on a date for further tests.

Will be hopefully posting on here when I know more and encouraging people to seek medial advice rather than waiting.

  • Welcome to the forum Nikki although I'm sorry to hear you may be contending with pagets disease.

I know this will be a challenging time until you know more, but I'm glad you've joined us as many of our members have been in this position so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to discuss this in more detail with one of our cancer nurses whilst you wait then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for your referral and that the results of the tests bring back good news.

    Kind regards,

  • Dear Nikki, I'm so sorry to hear that you're terrified. We've likely all experienced this at some point. But please don't beat yourself up at leaving it. You weren't to know and eczema infections seriously throw you off from what looks normal and what doesn't. Your skin is your biggest organ although on the outside. Plus your skin weeps with infections right?  Waiting to be seen is something else we've all experienced and while I can't magically calm you down, try everything you can to be kind to yourself and deep breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth is good for a quick fix in calming down. What I have learned in life before cancer is that worrying and panicking doesn't change anything, it's a waste of energy and likely to flare your eczema again. You're going to be seen, booked in for that now and I seriously hope it's good news for you but should it not be, we're here for you. You won't be alone. Come back on this site and get support as we're all in this together, supporting each other. Sending a big hug ♥️
