Swollen armpit..

I'm 3 weeks post pardum, I had the swelling appear in October last year and put it down to pregnancy. But now my boobs have settled down and I'm not breast feeding yet its still quite swollen? It does hurt sometimes and it's more pronounced than my other one. You cannot feel the lymph nodes. It's simply just a swelling but since prodding hurts alot more. I have saw a doctor when the baby was a week old and she said it's my hormones and nothing sinister and it's breast axillary tissue. Yet I'm still concerned as its not the same on the other side and it appears bigger. I haven't been referred or anything. I have got two photos too and you can see a difference. I also have health anxiety which doesn't help!

  • Congrats on the birth of your little one Chloe. I hope you're managing to enjoy this time as a new mum despite the current worries you're having.

Prodding the area can prolong any pain or tenderness you're experiencing in that area, so if you can, do try and stop doing this so that it has a chance to recover. However, if the swelling still doesn't go down after doing this then there's no harm in booking back in with your GP to get this looked at again, as they'll be able to give you the answers and peace of mind you're seeking at this time.

If you have more than one doctor working at your GP surgery, you could try getting a second opinion from another doctor. You can find out more just here.

I hope you receive some support and advice from our members soon but in the meantime we're thinking of you and hope the swelling goes down by itself soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph I went back to the doctors Monday and she scheduled me in today. After seeing her she did say its more of a swelling now without a lump though as such under the skin but it is deffinatly swollen its like a empty moutain under my armpit thats jever been there before. Unsure of the reason why but least we know the pain may be connected. She said she thinks it could be axillary breast tissue which I'm hoping it is. I have been referred on an urgent case as it is a swelling in the armpit area and different to my other.

Thank you taking time out to reply I really appreciate it l.
