Lump post mastectomy Silicone Implant

Hi there,

I had a bilateral mastectomy with silicone reconstruction nearly 7 years ago after DCIS Grade 0. I have found a lump that feels like a hard worrying lump in my opposite side of my chest, by / in the implant itself. It's not in the armpit but about an inch in and down which worries me it's a lymph node. I'm awaiting to be seen by my hospital but am thinking the worst. I wondered what the chances were of this occurring on the opposite side after a mastectomy, and also if anyone has experience with this? I do have capsular contraction but this lump feels like one of concern. My GP also said the same but she thinks the placement is is not ordinarily where a reoccurrence would occur. However when I look online I can see there are a few lymph nodes that run in this area. I'm confused and frightened so if anyone has any experience in this area I'd be so grateful to hear about it. Particularly silicone not diep. Thank you

  • Hi Roxanne123,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must be unsettling and I hope you're getting on OK - and that you don't have too long to wait for the appointment with the hospital.

Unfortunately I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but if you would like to talk to someone ahead of your appointment then you are more than welcome to give our nurses a call on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Meanwhile if there are others here with similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

I hope you're able to find out more before long.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
