Recurring chest infections and shadow on lung

Hi, I don't really know what I'm doing but I thought maybe posting here would help the never ending googling I do. I've had recurring chest infections for over a month now, with heart palpitations and endless fatigue. I ended up in A&E with chest pain and they found a shadow on my lung that they've assumed was infection. They wanted to do another xray in six weeks but since then I have had two courses of different antibiotics and I'm still so wheezy and fatigued and I'm so scared that they're missing something and I'm going to have lung cancer and it's going to be late when they catch it.

I'm 31 so the doctor keeps saying that while it's possible, it's unlikely because I'm young. And I guess I don't know how else to ask for more than just endless antibiotics that aren't helping? Or to advocate for myself or what to advocate for? I'm tired of being so poorly and I'm terrified it's something more serious.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, btay.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so poorly and understandably concerned after they found a shadow on your lung when you visited the A&E.

Hopefully others who have been in a similar situation will come along shortly to chat with you but until then try to focus your mind on other things. It might be a good idea too to stop googling your symptoms, as the internet is filled with unverified information which sometimes can make everything worse.

If you find yourself too worried though and feel that speaking with someone medically trained might help, our team of nurses can be reached on this number 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope all goes well for you, btay, and that in six weeks they find nothing sinister with your lungs.

    All the best,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
