Can ultrasound miss anything?

I am so stressed, I found a lump between the armpit and breast on left side a few months ago and I want to say it is more the tail end of the breast. into the armpit.  I saw a breast specialist and she could feel it. She sent for an ultrasound and I was all flustered when the ultrasound tech asked me where it was and I pointed lower to where it was, it wasn't marked and I was struggling to find the lump and just all panicky.

Any way they came in and said it was fine and they saw a node but all ok. I am still in pain with my armpit area, if I touch the lump it is painful and it moves and maybe this is the node they were refering to but on the notes the doctor got back it mentions no nodes or swelling of nodes. I was booked back in for friday but I have had to reschedule to see the doctor and see of they can rescan it. I keep going over the scan in my head but i cant be surew they covered that area as its further round and higher up. But if it is a node why woudl it be sore for months and not have gone down (not vaccinated as allergic to PEG and waiting on an immunology appointment so i have been careful and have not had any illness)

I keep getting my husband telling me im stupid for not making sure they scanned the exact area and then i get told by family the other lumps i had in my actual breast area were nothing but this is different in a dfferent area and if its a node I want to know wjhy for months it has been so sore and feels bigger.

I am a stressed person and have had lack of sleep and chronic stress fpr two years due to an ongoing medical legal issues and im worried ive caused it with stress. Im 36 and petrified that they missed something.

  • The last time I was scanned l was told that it's a snapshot of today and if anything changes l can come back on my open appointment. I have had an open appointment for many years and go when l any concerned l ring the breast department for an appointment they  usually say it's the next available appointment about six weeks. You could ring the breast nurses explaining your concerns and they can advise your on your next step. They have been really helpful over the years.
or maybe see your dr again to see if they will send you back to the clinic. I hope you can relax soon.

  • Thank you for the reply, I can be seen by the clinic on the 18th of feb so a few weeks to wait, and it will be at the breast clinic. That makes lots of sense with it being a snap shot at the time and things changing. I always second guess myself as my husband always makes me feel silly for thinkng a lump is serious and he has no idea how scary it is to have soemthing that should not be there with no explanation and how getting things checked is important. I am glad I can be seen soon. It is good they keep an open appointment for you, I had no idea they could do that but seems a much better process if already on the system rather than seeing the gp who wouldn't be able to do much and refer to the clinic anyway.

  • I had a lymph node that was evident for about 10 years yrs it was finally removed in 2015  as it became uncomfortable, the healing process took a while as it leaked..l hope you have a good result from your visit to the clinic
