Can a fibroadenoma grow quickly?

Looking for some advice.

I was referred to breast clinic August 2021 for thickening in my right breast.  This turned out to be normal, dense breast tissue (confirmed by mammogram and ultrasound).  However on the scans they saw a mass in my left breast - myself, GP and consultant couldn't feel this at all so it only was picked up by the scans.  It was biopsied and diagnosed as a benign fibroadenoma.

Fast forward to January this year and while doing my breast check I can feel a significant hard lump which doesn't move around.  It's beside the area where the biopsy was taken.  So my question is, is this just my fibroadenoma growing and I can now feel it?  I'm unsure if I should go to my GP as don't want to overreact and waste their time.  Has anyone else's fibroadenoma grown significantly in 6 months?

  • Hey Nutty,

Never worry or think that you are wasting your GP's time. If something’s unusual for you or won’t go away, they will want to hear about it, so as this is worrying you it would be best to book an appointment with your doctor so they can have another look and let you know what's what.

One of our cancer nurses may be able to offer some insight as well so if you'd like to get their thoughts on this, you're welcome to get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m -5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members will share their thoughts and experiences with you soon but in the meantime we'll have our fingers crossed this isn't any cause for concern.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph for your reassurance that I wouldn't be wasting the GPstime.  I'll make an appointment.
