Ultrasound worry

Hello

I was referred for an ultrasound due to some tummy pain and slightly elevated LFT. GP suspects non-alcoholic fatty liver disease as I had this about 13 years ago (all other bloods were normal although I also do have an underactive thyroid)

Pain has now gone and no other symptoms at all but I still went for the scan yesterday, I don't know if the lady doing the scan was a sonographer or radiographer but she spent quite a while scanning the right side and not that long on the left. Once the scan was over and I was cleaning the gel off she asked me what prompted me to see the GP which I found a little strange so I asked her if she saw something and she just said she hasn't read the images and would send measurements and reports back to my GP and results would be back within a week. I am now so scared she saw something especially after her question and a few people have since said if its normal I would have been told. Has anyone else had similar but had normal results? And can you still get normal results even when the person doing the scan hasn't told you? My husband said maybe she asked what she did as she couldn't actually see anything wrong at all but surely she would have said if that was the case. Im 41 and mum of 4,do not smoke and rarely drink. So worried

  • Hiya, I would have to agree with your husband- sounds like she couldn''t see anything wrong hence her question!
the sonographers are usually not trained to give you results or speculate on anything. Of course they have an understanding of what they see, but don't always know how to interpret it. From my knowledge, I would not expect them to comment on what, if anything, they thought was wrong.
Hope all goes well with your results :-)

  • Hello last May I was diagnosed with elevated alkaline phosphatase and gamma gt.

And after loads of different scans I have a dilated pancreatic duct. I'm very frightened and being monitored.

The dilation was initially found at the ultrasound.

I'm sure everything will be fine for you.

    Sending best wishes xx
