26 and found a lump

A week ago I found a small lump in my breast, I was luckily able to see my GP next day who was very reassured that it was nothing sinister. She said the lump was maluable and was referring me just to be on the safe side. I have pretty bad anxiety around any health issue and for the last week haven't been able to sleep or eat. I finally have my scan date but it's not for 3 weeks. I'm already not coping very well and after reading stories of girls my age being told it's nothing and having a completely different diagnosis at the ultrasound I'm a bit of a mess. Posting this thread as I don't know what to think

  • Hi Alices, sorry you find yourself here after finding a lump. I am older at 35 but I have found a lump and since another one in the same breast since the beginning of the month so I am very anxious and worried. My doctor also reassured me she didn't think it was anything sinister and was referring me to be on the safe side, but it doesn't help my anxiety!! My appointment at the breastclinic is on Monday. This forum has really helped me to speak to like minded ladies going through the same thing and to read other stories. Although hard it is best not to Google as this makes you feel worse, it definitely has with me as at first I did google a lot! The wait is so hard but I really hope you have good news and the GP is right. In the meantime hopefully it helps you to talk on here x

  • Let me know how yours goes! I hope everything is okay  Since finding out so many of my friends and family have told me they've been through the same thing and to not worry. But it's a hard thing to do when it's your lump and your boob! X

  • Hello there

Just wanted to say that if you are really struggling with your anxiety, just ask if your GP will prescribe something short term like diazepam maybe? Don't suffer. We are all anxious when this stuff happens. I've just been prescribed sleeping tablets by my GP to get through waiting on MRI scans etc. I was waking in the night with sinking feeling in pit of my stomach. If you aren't resting, you can't feel strong the next day. Best of luck to you and I hope you are all clear xx

  • Thank you, I appreciate it. I hope you get on well too when your date comes around and it's good news for you. It is definitely hard when it's you.  My Mum had cysts in her early 40s and again later so I really hope I get the same result! I just always worry that it has to happen to someone, especially as I have now lost my Mum to cancer (not breast), but it does play on my mind a lot. I have a young son and really don't want to leave him. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard especially the closer it gets to the clinic appointment. x

  • Been thinking about you today, how is everything? Hope your appointment went well. Can you tell me what happened please, did they tell you there and then what they saw on the ultrasound? X

  • Hi alices,

Thank you for thinking of me. I am very relieved to say I have cysts ranging in size but all harmless. I am very grateful and also very aware that a few ladies there today will not have had such good news.

When I arrived I had to fill in a form asking several questions about what I had found and when, family history, any children etc. I was then called through to have an ultrasound and the senior radiographer told me there and then he could see cysts and he took clear photos of them and measured them. I was then sent back to the waiting room  to wait for the consultant to see me. There was quite a wait in between but I wasn't as worried once I had been told cysts. I'm not sure if all hospitals do the same though as I think some do consultant first. When I saw the consultant he examined me first then said he could feel cysts which was fine and matched up to the ultrasound, they range in size up to 8mm but all harmless, just got to keep an eye on them.

I hope that helps. Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment, please keep me updated x
