Finally got my appointment - Terrified

Back in november i found a lump in my underarm, few weeks later I noticed swelling, puckering and inflammation on a patch on my breast, Its about the size of a lemon wedge. I have pain that comes and goes but its every few days!  I got checked out by my GP, put on antibiotics for a week that didnt help and then reffered for the 2WW breast clinic on the 17th of december.

Ive finally got my appointment over a month!! later because of all the delays with covid etc Been going out of my mind!! The first few weeks was really hard as I have a baby boy ( 9 months old ) and the thought of having cancer and leaving him and my husband is heart breaking

I was able to push it to the back of my head for a few weeks through christmas but now ive actually got my appointment the fear is back.. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst I know it's treatable but my nan passed a few years back from it and im just scared!!

  • Hi Shannons97, so sorry you have had such a long wait. That is awful and it must have made you so anxious waiting all that time. Good luck with your appointment, I really hope it is a good outcome. You sound the same as me, I have a 4year old and the thought of leaving him and my husband terrifies me! I can't help but think the worst!

I had similar to you with what felt like a wedge/hard area in my breast that was very tender and I didn't feel 100% with  a slightly raised temperature so I was given antibiotics. There was no change and it's more like a lump now that does feel slightly smaller, but I have since found at least one more in the same breast so worried sick! My appointment at the breast clinic is on Monday.

When is your appointment? Please let us know how you get on x

  • It has been really hard! especially when its known as an urgent referral Thank you! Good luck with yours aswell, let me know how you get on! Mines on Tuesday coming X

Aww i know its heart breaking to think about it right? Its awful Hoping we both get good news! mines not really hard, like the outter appearance is more like a wedge ( the red patch ) but my whole breast feels quite lumpy - doctor said its not uncommon since im not long after having my boy but idk! I still have my underarm lump though!

do you still feel unwell? The anxiety is unreal X

  • I can imagine, that is really awful on an urgent referral! Something like this should take priority!  I feel lucky in that I was only referred last week and I have the date through for next week on Monday. I first found it on 1st January but my GP wouldn't see me until I had a negative PCR because of a slightly raised temperature, even though it was clearly not linked to covid. That then took ages to come back! Then I had the antibiotics as a precaution.

Yes it's very hard. I also lost my Mum to cancer 2 years ago (not breast) so my anxiety has increased since then anyway. Mine felt like a  blocked duct at first but I haven't breastfed for over 2 years. Yours does sound similar to when I had mastitis or blocked ducts so hopefully it is linked to not long having your son. I really hope mine is hormonal as it seems to have changed in reaction to my cycle and that side always had issues while I was feeding too as it produced a lot more milk so really hoping it's linked. Did your doctor give you any reasurrance about it? I know they can't know 100% but mine did say it felt like either a cyst or fibroadenoma, both benign and that she doesn't feel it is sinister, but now I've found at least one more lump I'm worried! Mine is painful at times so hoping that's a good sign too.

I don't feel unwell with anymore, but the area is still tender it seems in reaction to my cycle so I'm hoping it is a cyst or something.

Keep me updated on how you're getting on. It definitely helps to talk to someone going through it x

  • I know! I think with covid and everything its made a back log and they are trying to catch up I apologise for the late reply, been super busy past few days and I was actually happy to be distracted!

Im glad you got your appointment fast! let me know how you get on tomorrow! Goodluck ️

Im sorry for your loss of your mom it definately hits close to home for us, keeping you in my thoughts! hmm thats strange! My doctor told me you can even get blocked ducts without breast feeding but its less common I only breastfed my boy for a short while so idk, Hopefully it's hormonal or something benign for the both of us! X

  • Hi again,

Thanks for your kind words. I have finished my appointment now and I am very relieved to say I have cysts ranging in size but all harmless. I hope it is the same outcome for you tomorrow and either that or something else benign. I had an ultrasound first and then saw the consultant. The radiographer doing the ultrasound did tell me it was cysts as well. I have had a month of hell and had some awful anxiety so feel very grateful, especially knowing some other ladies today won't have had such good news.

I read that about blocked ducts and mastitis as well, so it is definitely possible but my GP didn't seem to think so but she didn't think it was sinister either so thankful she was right.

Wishing you the very best of luck for tomorrow and please let me know how you get on x

  • Good luck for today! Thinking of you! Let me know how you get on x

  • Good luck for today! Thinking of you! Let me know how you get on x

  • Thats amazing News!!! Im soooo happy and relieved for you! Must feel like the weight of the world had been lifted off your shoulders

Was it a long appointment? My letter said to allocate atleast 4 hours Im so glad every turned out okay for you!! My doctor has been the same, doesnt think its sinister but said yknow he cant say for sure cause he cant do an ultrasound so wanted me to go for one so im hoping he's right!

I thought my appointment was today but ita actually tomorrow! So another day of worry for me, Im super anxious and just want it over with but the anxiety is eating me alive tonight Ill let you know tomorrow night how I got on X

  • Thank you, yes it is definitely a relief!

It was quite a long time of mainly waiting! I was told to allow 3-4 hours and I was out within 3 hours. I guess it depends on what tests they decide on. I had to fill in a form then had the ultrasound after a short while of waiting, then had quite a long wait to see the consultant.

Oh no, what a shame with your appointment, but nearly there now. I know exactly how you feel as I was the same! I will be thinking of you tomorrow and I really hope for a good outcome for you. Good luck x

  • Hey sorry i never updated you yesterday!! Im in the all clear! Everything looks normal and healthy they think its just hormonal changes! I was sooooo relieved ️ So happy for the both of us! xx
