Black areas in stool worried

In November I noticed a large patch of black on one of my stools since then   been passing stools with black in them ever since

Untill today I wasn't worried about it being possible cancer as I was convinced it was due to a stomach ulcer

I had a telephone appointment on Xmas even and doctor thought possible gastritis as I was taking alot of ibuprofen and it has been  affecting my tummy for years not bleeding tho  and refered me for a gastroscopy. Today( Tues 25th ) I had a telephone appointment with the endoscopy doctor. Who for some reason told me I'm actually bleeding from the back passage  without seeing me or giving me the gastroscopy I was referred for

Anywho I've been passed back to my doctor again I found the gp very rude. Like I'm stupid cause I took ibuprofen the first one didn't treat me like annoyance .  And I have a appointment on Friday to have a feel of my tummy and a examination of my back passage. to see if I need a scope  just hope it's not the doctor that phoned me today  but being told it's possibly coming from not where thought it was that raised alarm bells and now I'm petrified  and dunno where to turn

  • Hello Andy91x,

finding stale blood in your stools is never something  not to worry about,so thank goodness you are getting it seen to shortly. l take it that alongside taking a lot of ibruprofen you were taking a buffer such as omeprazole to protect your digestive tract. l can well understand your GPs response since they shun the long term use of this painkiller, what you took as being rude would have been meant as the strongest warning possible as to the potential damage this can inflict, to that end it has certainly got your attention.

The most important thing now is to find out the cause of the bleed, and should that be the "rude" doctor doing the investigation l for one would be very relaxed since l would prefer it to be one on top of their game and taking it seriously  not dismissively, and from your description that would certainly point to that happening. Try not to overstress and prejudge any outcome and focus on the positive about getting answers and treatment, or indeed just change of medicines if they turn out to be the cause,

Hope it goes well for you,

                                                          David

  • Had a tummy exam and a finger up the back passage no lumps found and no blood which  is as predicted.  Got to have a fit test which I'm sure I can predict the outcome of too  question is when it's postive. Will they suggest a colonoscopy as. Fit tests screen for bowel cancer or. A gastroscopy as that's what I was referred  for in the first place but discharged without having it done
