Breast referral. Current waiting times in West Scotland?

Hello everyone, I have just had a referral to the breast clinic as I found a hard lump under my breast. I'm in West Scotland. I was wondering if anyone knew waiting times. The doctor has marked it as urgent but now that we've had this pandemic I don't know what to expect.  I looked through this thread but does anyone have any current experience? I'm wondering whether to pay privately (although not sure what happens if it is cancer after a private check). Thanks for your help. Sarah

  • We're East of Scotland (Lothian) and my wife had to wait around 3 weeks from seeing the nurse. Hopefully someone from the Greater Glasgow area can chip in and give to one for the West.

  • Hi Sarah

I'm sorry you find yourself on this forum . When these things crop up it throws everything !
I'm in the west of Scotland too and attended the breast clinic for a routine mammogram in October 21.  I was called back after a month as the results were unclear . On the day I went back I had another mammogram , ultrasound and biopsy . 10 days later I had an appointment at the hospital . The appointment was made by the hospital secretary who called me .
On that day I was told I had breast cancer and an MRI would be booked as I have lobular BC . This took 3 weeks . 3 weeks later I had an appointment for the results . They told me that I had a liver lesion that needed checked so a scan was asked for . I had a call that day and it was arranged for 5 days later at a different hospital . I get the results of that tomorrow so 9 days after scan .
maybe you will be quicker , I really hope so because the waiting has been torturous for me but I do understand that all tests have to be done before a plan is put in place . I did query going private but found their waiting lists were actually longer than the NHS . Possibly it's different now I don't know . There's no harm in finding out . Fingers crossed it's quick for you and all turns out well . Hope this helps and let us know how you get on x

  • Hi Sarah,

I'm in Ayrshire, I was referred on 10/12 received a letter between Christmas and New Year for an appointment on 31/1. Called up referral management and was allocated a cancellation on 17/1.

    Best wishes, Em

  • Hi, I'm in Lanarkshire and I waited 5 weeks exactly from the day I seen my GP until breast clinic appointment. I was actually seen at the clinic at Forth Valley in Stirling. Hope you're not waiting too long. The waiting is such a worry. Xx

  • Hi,

I have too been referred to breast clinic on 17/1/2022. I phoned x/house house last Fri and she said it is a 7-8 week wait at moment. My jaw nearly hit the floor and I honestly don't think I can wait that long. When I asked how likely that would be she said 'well you've only been waiting 4 days so who knows.'  I phoned Ross hall and I have an appointment next Fri (4th Feb). I don't particularly have the money and like you have no idea what happens if I need more treatment after but I can't wait 7-8 weeks.  Hope this helps.

  • Thank you for your reply. Wishing you and your wife all the best.

  • And yes, it really is the forum you don't want to find yourself on. You are right. I will keep you posted. X

  • It is a stress. Thank you for letting me know your process. All the best. X

  • Wow, seven to eight weeks. I'm sorry it's like that for you. Maybe keep phoning? But if you do go private it will be peace of mind. Thanks for letting me know your process.
