Lump in both breasts

Hi everyone I was just wondering if anyone had the same experience as me. Just for a bit of background I am 19 years old and had a baby in July 2021. Early December 2021 I found a small lump kind of under my nipple and I went to the docs to get it checked out. She wasn't worried and told me that it is likely to be a duct or gland and that I should come back in 4 weeks. Just before my appointment I found another lump in my other breast that the doctor said is moveable and likely could be a cyst. She told me that because I now have two and the other hasn't gone she referred me to the breast clinic. She told me that she is not worried at all and that she is following guidelines by referring me. However, I am still absolutely terrified especially because I have a 7 month old baby!!
I also have a strange burning kind of pain in my armpit. Me and my partner did do some push ups a few days ago and I have been in a bit of pain from that so could it be that?
Has anyone had this kind of experience?

thank you

  • Hi

No I haven't had that experience , but wanted to reassure you that the majority of lumps turn out not to be breast cancer.I never felt a lump but had breast cancer.

It sounds like something related ton your recent pregancy , especially if that's what the doctor thinks.

I hope you get some good news and can enjoy your family x

    HI,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You have done the right thing by getting this investigated. It doesn't sound as if your GP is too worried about this. Moveable lumps are more likely to be cysts, whereas fixed ones are more likely to be more sinister. Not all breast lumps are cancerous. Many are benign cysts, hormonal or fibrous changes. The younger you are the less likely it is to be cancer. The fact that you have recently had a baby could also point to a blocked milk duct or something simple.

Chances are that your burning pain is more likely due to your push ups, as pain doesn't usually accompany breast cancer - like Minty, I had no pain, yet I've had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years. You will normally be seen at the breast clinic within 2 weeks from the date of referral. Out of every 8 people attending the clinic, only 1 will get a breast cancer diagnosis. Even if the worst comes to the worst, breast cancer is one of the most treatable types of cancer today.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to hear that you had breast cancer. I hope you are ok now!

im trying to tell myself the armpit pain is all in my head as ever since I had my baby I've had very bad health anxiety. It seems as though the pain has spread to my back and arm so maybe its how I'm sleeping or carrying my baby? That's what I'm telling myself haha!

I have my appointment on 7th feb fingers crossed it's nothing bad

  • Hi

thank you for your reply! Your response has really helped me not panic too much and hope for the best!
I am so sorry to hear that you have had breast cancer. I hope you are ok now, physically and mentally!

I think the fact I have health anxiety is making everything worse! My armpit pain has spread to my arm and back now so I'm thinking maybe I slept funny or I'm holding my baby bad as it's on the side I hold him!
i have my appointment on 7th feb so will let you know how it all goes!

    thank you
