Persistent throat pain and swollen lymph node

Hello,

I've had on and off throat pain since August. Back in august I had a horrible flu like illness - cold symptoms, blocked sinuses, fever and vomitting. This is when I started getting pain in my left ear and left side of the throat, and one of my lymph nodes on the left side swelled up. The lymph node never went completely down but did shrink a little but my doctor said that's pretty normal. But the pain in the left side of my throat has remained, I would describe it more as pain than soreness. Sometimes my ear, neck and left shoulder also hurt with it. Sometimes I don't notice it, sometimes it's pretty bad.

I have also recently noticed a hard lump over a rib on the left side of my chest, it feel just like a rib and my doctor said the same but it's clearly asymetrical with the other side. I'm worried this could be related?

I have no other symptoms, my voice is absolutely fine, I don't have a cough, no fever, weight loss or anything. Just this pain on one side of the throat all the time. My doctor did blood tests a couple of weeks ago and everything came back normal. I have another appointment on Wednesday but I am just so worried. Any idea's what this could be?!

Also, I am a music teacher so I spend a lot of my time talking/singing, I have also been told by my dentist that my bottom left wisdom tooth is impacted so these could be linked.

  • Welcome to the forum Lulusulu although I'm sorry to hear of the symptoms you've been contending with.

Unfortunately no-one here will be able to tell you what this is but I hope your appointment with the doctor goes well today and you're able to find out more, as well as what happens next.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their support to you soon but fingers crossed it won't take too long to get to the bottom of this and that it's no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I'm not sure I can be of much help but do know wisdom teeth can cause jaw & ear pain as I had 2 that were troublesom. in regards to the flu like illness with vomiting, stomach acid can cause sore throat & scaring, sometimes shoulder pain can be deferred pain from your stomach, a few years ago I had a flu like illness without vomiting but had the shoulder pain which the Dr on call mentioned can be related to the stomach, (pregnancy with my 3 children caused horrendous heartburn to continue after birth over the years prior) I had to have a camera down into my stomach which showed I had oesophagitus which antacids fixed

All in all as worrying as it was everything was fine as I'm sure it will be for you too

    Best wishes
