Worried about MRI

I've been experiencing gynecological issues for over two years, and have to date had 19 consultations, some face to face, some telephone. I have had three internal scans, regular scheduled cervical screening and waited 18 months for first gynecologist appointment. I experienced very heavy bleeding during my very regular periods and repeated UTIs, pain and random issues with brown watery discharge.   The three scans all showed different results and suggested various polyps or fibroids in the uterus. Finally had gyne appointment, It was carried out over the phone, and I was told the reason for no clear diagnosis was because I was overweight. I was put on the waiting list for a hysteroscopy. After waiting six months I attended the hysteroscopy appointment last week. The gynecologist couldn't find the neck of the cervix and some thing was blocking it. Then when conducting first internal I've had, stated that there was a problem and ordered urgent MRI.
I'm worried sick and don't know what to think. If it was cervical cancer, surely it would have been picked up sooner? Are there any other explanations for the neck of cervix not to be detected.

    Hi Nelly,

A very warm welcome our forum. I am so sorry to hear of all the trouble you've had and still no diagnosis. It sounds as if you might now be on the right road to discovering what ails you. Try not to overthink the situation. Here's hoping that your MRI appointment comes through soon and you can get some answers.

I am a breast cancer survivor and don't know much about cervical issues, so, I am sorry that I cannot answer your question. I would expect that, as with differential diagnosis of breast cancer, there could well be other less worrying causes of your symptoms. This is always an anxious time. Try to keep yourself busy - this should help the waittime to pass.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Nelly,

I'm hoping they get you sorted really soon. The MRI should be really helpful. I had a very similar scare about 5 years ago (when you could see people face to face!) - I found internal exams extremely painful, although bleeding was not so much of an issue for me, my pain was in my back and had awful bowel issues - MRI found a huge external fibroid (on the outside of my uretus) the size of a coconut! Needless to say I ended up having a full hysterectomy (well almost full - I'd already lost an ovary & tube). Prior to the hysterectomy I had my smear (was absolute hell) - but as my GP said - they may not check things so well as they are concentrating on removing the fibroid. This was all clear. Now I don't have a cervix - so that's one less worry.  I am hoping for a positive outcome for you. Please let me know how you get on.
